To Captain Gord

As the tears and beer rose across the nation with anticipation of the impending Nautical Disaster for Tragically would never again be the Hip. We watched Captain Gord at the helm, thrashing around, guiding us through the treacherous waters of his imagination harvesting our hearts. The first time I truly pledged my allegiance to Captain Gord and the rest of his crew is a story I keep tucked under my Fifty-Mission Cap. One might have thought it was just another Road Side Attraction, but in 93 when I first saw Captain Gord step out on deck and speak in tongues I could feel the Little Bones in my ears telling me that they were the Last of the Unplucked Gems. From that point on I was a card carrying crew member of this strictly Canadian club, Fully and Completely committed to the cause.

My Music @ Work last night was IV alarms and calls for help, but there was something on the screen, The Hip, A Gift Shop of quiet moments left me the chance to see Captain Gord and his crew stand on deck one last time, and I couldn't help but add a few tears to Chagrin Falls. Captain Gord even saw fit to speak out about the North and my friends up here who could use a little Grace, Too. For all the lives I've helped save I Felt Locked in the Trunk of a Car, no light or power to do anything to help Captain Gord, this person who has never laid eyes on me, but has left his fingerprints on my heart. Yes we have seen Princes and Space Travellers pass, but the impending loss of The Wheat King will take away the bread that helped nourish a nation's soul.
